The Gilcee printing process uses hybrid “archival quality” inks that have been independently tested to resist any visible fading for over 100 years. Today’s most advanced printing devices, used for producing Giclee prints, use up to eight different coloured inks, thereby producing a far wider range and depth of colour than the conventional process. This type of printing is used for conventionally printed material, but has inherent limitations for the reproduction of fine art. Giclee vs Conventional Printing: Over 95% of colour printing today is produced using an “offset lithographic” printing process using 4 colored printing inks. The term “Giclee” derived from the French “to spray” was coined to differentiate these fine art prints from prints produced using a conventional printing process. The Origin of Giclee: The first Giclee prints were produced in the early 1990s when the first large format inkjet printers emerged, allowing for printing on archival papers and canvases. We will place special orders for different sizes or for prints done on canvas. Many Images are available in a variety of sizes.

Due to the hand finished nature of many of our products, all bespoke sizes will be approximate and cannot be guaranteed to the millimetre. All sizes are trimmed to the approximate size and bespoke images will still require bleed when trimmed. For standard photographic prints, we do not offer any bespoke trimming, but you can still design a custom print to trim down at home once you receive your order if required. For our fine art photo prints, we are able to trim (approximately) to your desired size before dispatching your order. For example, if you are looking for a 23x14” print, as this is not a standard size that we would offer, you would need to select the 24x16” print option. Designing a bespoke size print is easy, you simply float your image on a background of the next available larger size that your desired print will fit onto.
